|What services do you believe are most important for the ACT?||Inclusive community spaces eg; Parks, Playgrounds, Green spaces and Community centres should include and/or make provision for services to include in those places, BBQ's, Fire pits, Community Gardens. Rain and sun shelters. Toilets and baby change facilities. At places like Holt community centre, Lyneham commons etc. Areas within parks, Green spaces etc could be fenced off for safety and services appropriate to the function within the area could be provided. Eg; BBQ facilities, Fire pit, Community gardens will need water facilities, etc.|
|How can the ACT Government deliver current services more efficiently and productively or to better meet the needs of Canberrans?||Engage the wider community, academic community and people have current or previous experience being involved in these type of projects. Eg Lyneham commons, Canberra Organic Growers. Inform and request public opinion through forums such as this one.|
|Are there particular services that you think the ACT Government can improve?|
YES. Weed spraying. Stop it REALLY just stop it. It has been done to death. If you have sprayed a blackberry bush for 20 + years and it is still alive what does that tell you. The people employed to spray the thing are not going to say it is not working and neither are the people selling the chemicals that are used. It is there job on the line after all. Just stop it, it will save a lot of funds that can be used to treat the weed problems in much more productive and environmentally friendly ways. Eg; plant something else where the blackberries or other infestation is growing to outcompete it. Eg; Wattle trees, Casuarina, Eucalyptus.
Landcare, Greening Australia or work for the dole or other Environmental working groups would be happy to be involved and would be more cost effective and long term solution. We need healthy soils to support life, ours and the mirriad of other creatures we share the world with. It is a fact that insect populations around the world are in a sharp decline. Horticultural chemicals are the main culprit to blame for this problem. Stop buying them and stop making people use them. You really do need to lead by example on this.
|What can the ACT Government do to make Canberra even more liveable?||Release land for sale that is actually affordable.|
