What services do you believe are most important for the Territory? Protection of the environment and fostering of the 'bush capital', equitable access to public services including 'lifestyle' amenities, a 'public services first' approach. My own priorities: nature parks and national parks; libraries; public transport with bike transport options attached; 'people-centred' shopping precincts; swimming pools; access and care of the Murrumbidgee River; transparency and integrity in planning consultation processes.
How can the Government deliver current services more efficiently or in ways that better meet the needs of our community?Deliver real transparency and integrity in planning consultation processes - currently the processes are lip service only with no follow through on results of consultation; increase the spend on environment to improve water quality in public water ways (Murrumbidgee, Molongolo, Burley Griffin, Tuggeranong Lake); to improve amenity for the public on the Murrumbidgee; library at Cooleman Court or in this mid West area; outdoor pools along with indoor pools when they are built; more resources for archives so historical material about Canberra is more accessible eg about the development of the nature parks, history of Kambah etc.
Are there particular services that you think the Government should stop delivering or should deliver in a different way?Deconcessioning of recreational lease with profits to private clubs that are recreational lease holders is a problem - creates excessive and unnecessary community conflict and is an inequitable and non-transparent assignment of tax payer dollars. Needs to stop ASAP. If recreational clubs no longer need their holdings, there needs to be a public process to decide the fate of that land. At the moment this process behaves as a 'service' to clubs, in my opinion utterly unethical.
What new ideas, services or programs should the Government consider to meet emerging or evolving community needs?Green credits for cyclists - like a green 'tax return' for trips without cars; workplace partnerships to promote healthy transport options eg 30 mins work time assigned to transit by vehicle other than car including walk to bus stop. Recycling bin audits so we can see if we really are recycling effectively; 'playful' shops - shop activations - effort to activate town centres appreciated but would like to see this happen at abandoned/unleased shops as a way to address equity of access eg many southside 'shops' have multiple vacancies - if these were made available to artists or others for community 'pop ups', this might enhance community engagement, participation et al.
